Classic Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Bourbon or Rye whiskey (you can also use other spirits like brandy or rum)
  • 1 Boozy Botanist Infused sugar cube
  • 2 dashes Boozy Botanist Bitters
  • Orange twist and/or cherry for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Place the sugar cube in the bottom of an Old Fashioned glass.
Add the two dashes of Angostura bitters directly onto the sugar cube.
Muddle the sugar cube and bitters together in the glass. This involves gently pressing and stirring to dissolve the sugar and create a syrupy consistency. Some people like to add a few drops of water at this stage to help with the muddling.
Fill the glass with ice cubes.
Pour the Bourbon or Rye whiskey over the ice.
Stir gently to combine the ingredients.
Optionally, garnish your Old Fashioned with an orange twist and/or a cherry.
Serve your Old Fashioned straight up, without a straw, and enjoy.

The Old Fashioned is appreciated for its strong, spirit-forward flavor with just a hint of sweetness and bitterness from the sugar and bitters. It's a classic cocktail that's often considered the "original" cocktail, dating back to the early 19th century. Over the years, it has remained a favorite among cocktail enthusiasts for its simplicity and timeless appeal.
